The highly-anticipated third installment of the “John Wick” action franchise hits next year and while it has previously been sold as the final chapter in the trilogy, director Chad Stahelski tells Entertainment Weekly that both he and star Keanu Reeves have discussed ideas for future installments and that both still see plenty of potential left to mine:
“I enjoy making these movies because there’s no limit. We create our own mythology, and we have a studio that both stays out of our way and supports us on the wacky decisions. If people go see the movie, and it makes money, and they came back to us, Keanu and I have ideas for days. I could live here for the rest of my career. If people like it and want to watch more, I could think of way worse ways to spend your career. But, you know, we’re in the entertainment business. We’ll let the audience figure that out.”
The franchise is already set to expand past the films with a spin-off series entitled “The Continental” currently in the works at Starz. A spin-off film, entitled “Ballerina” and following a child assassin, is also being developed.
Ian McShane, Common, Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, and Ruby Rose return while Halle Berry, Angelica Huston, Hiroyuki Sanada, Asia Kate Dillon, Mark Dacascos, and Jason Mantzoukas also star in the third “John Wick” film which opens May 17th.
