Nickelodeon has handed out a thirteen-episode series order for “Kamp Koral,” a spinoff of the network’s signature series “SpongeBob SquarePants”.
Unlike the classic 2D cartoon, the off-shoot will be a CG-animated series and serves as a prequel. The show follows a ten-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants during his summer at sleepaway camp.
In the series, SpongeBob and his pals spend the summer building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest Kamp Koral.
Nickelodeon announced earlier this year that several SpongeBob spinoffs are planned and this marks the first to get a green light. Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller co-executive produce the prequel and production begins this month at Nickelodeon’s facilities in Burbank.
