New Regency and Ubisoft Motion Pictures have set actor-turned-writer Frank John Hughes to pen the next draft of the film adaptation of the video game series “Splinter Cell” which Doug Liman will direct and Tom Hardy is slated to star in.

Eric Warren Singer penned the first draft, whilst Sheldon Turner penned a more recent version. Hardy will play Sam Fisher, a highly trained special operative in a fictional black-ops sub-division ‘Echelon’ who neutralize international terrorist threats.

Meanwhile, Shaun Grant (“Snowtown,” “Berlin Syndrome”) has been hired to adapt Eric Jager’s novel “The Last Duel” for Studio 8. Francis Lawrence (“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”) is attached to direct with Erwin Stoff producing.

Set in France, the story follows the final duel ever sanctioned by the French government in 1386 between knights Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris.
