Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One,” the sci-fi film adaptation of Ernest Cline’s best-selling fantasy novel, has been pushed back by three months to a March 30th 2018 release.
The delay gets it out of the way of Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: Episode VIII” which Disney shifted to December 15th 2017 – the same day ‘Player’ was originally targeting.
Ben Mendelsohn and Olivia Cooke star in ‘Ready’ which unfolds in a virtual reality universe called the Oasis. The new date allows the Warner Bros. Pictures release to score more IMAX screens as it coincides with Easter and there are no other major movies scheduled to open that month at this point.
Due to the change, Warners has also moved an untitled DC Comics film, likely “The Flash” standalone film, from March 23rd to March 16th 2018.
