There are numerous actors who not only retired, they’ve taken it seriously and haven’t appeared in films again since despite still being very much alive including Gene Hackman, Sean Connery, Warren Beatty, Rick Moranis, Goldie Hawn, Bridget Fonda and likely Jack Nicholson.
One actor high on the list is Gene Wilder, the comedian was last seen on the big screen in 1991’s “Only You” though has appeared in TV series and telemovies in more recent years with the last being a 2003 appearance on sitcom “Will and Grace”.
A few days ago came word that Steven Spielberg has selected the film adaptation of Ernest Cline’s novel “Ready Player One” as his next directorial effort and today a new rumor at AICN suggests Spielberg has already met with Wilder in an attempt to lure him out of retirement.
If it’s for this project, the role will likely be that of James Halliday, a gifted programmer and game designer who develops a massively popular online simulator known as OASIS – a virtual universe that replaces the real world in almost every way imaginable. Halliday’s death kicks off events in the film with a hidden Easter egg somewhere in the game – one that whomever finds it will inherit Halliday’s huge fortune.
“Ready Player One” is expected to go into production next year and will open December 2017.
