Spielberg To Helm “Edgardo Mortara” Tale?

Steven Spielberg has signed on to produce and potentially direct the religious drama “The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara” at DreamWorks and The Weinstein Company.

“Lincoln” and “Munich” screenwriter Tony Kushner is adapting the script from David Kertzer non-fiction book about a seven year old Italian-Jewish boy.

In 1858, the boy was controversially removed from his parents by the authority of the Papal States and raised as a Catholic. He went on to become a priest in the Augustinian order.

Kushner only recently began work so this won’t be Spielberg’s immediate next project, that is more likely to be either “Robopocalypse” or “Montezuma” with the former said to be the front runner.
