Spielberg Scores Big Cast For “Lincoln”

Steven Spielberg is locking down the supporting cast of his Abraham Lincoln biopic for DreamWorks with some big names taking the key roles says The Hollywood Reporter.

Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, John Hawkes, Hal Holbrook, John Hawkes, Tim Blake Nelson, Bruce McGill, Joseph Cross, David Costabile, Byron Jennings, Dakin Matthews, Boris McGiver, Gloria Reuben, Jeremy Strong and David Warshofsky are all in negotiations to join the project.

The group joins the already cast Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln and Sally Field as his wife Mary. The story is based on “Team of Rivals” by Doris Kearns Goodwin and adapted by Tony Kushner.

Jones will play Thaddeus Stevens, a Republican leader and congressman from Pennsylvania. Gordon-Levitt will take on the role of Robert Todd Lincoln, his eldest son.

Shooting kicks off this fall in Virginia with a late 2012 release being targeted.
