Spielberg Puts Out “West Side” Casting Call

It looks like filmmaker Steven Spielberg is leaning towards “West Side Story” rather than a fifth “Indiana Jones” as being his next directorial effort.

EW reports that a casting call has gone out for the new adaptation of the iconic 1957 musical about rival New York gangs. A script is presently being worked on by “Munich” scribe Tony Kushner.

The casting notice seeks three Latino performers for the roles of Maria, Anita, and Bernardo and a Caucasian actor for the role of Tony. The role requires a decent singing voice while dancing experience is seen as a big plus.

No word on a production or release date announcement at this time.
