A bunch of films have locked down new release dates in the past day or two.
Marvel Studios and Sony’s “Spider-Man: Far From Home” has been moved up by three days, the film shifting from a planned Friday July 5th opening to an earlier Tuesday July 2nd opening to take advantage of the extended July 4th holiday.
Sticking with Sony and their planned live-action “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” reboot tipped to star Noah Centineo has unsurprisingly been delayed from its current December 18th release to a date sometime in 2020. With no director or cast officially attached as yet, there was no chance the film would be ready for release this year.
“Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” Paramount’s live-action take on Nickelodeon’s hit kids series “Dora the Explorer,” will now open on July 31 – moving up two days to get out of the way of likely action juggernaut “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” opening that Friday August 2nd.
STXfilms has set a September 13th 2019 release date for “Hustlers” the Lorene Scafaria-helmed drama starring Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Cardi B, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, and Julia Stiles. The story follows a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.
“Gretel and Hansel,” Orion Pictures’ reimagining of the Grimm fairy tale, has been set for a January 31st 2020 opening. “IT” breakout Sophia Lillis stars alongside Sammy Leakey, Alice Krige, Jessica De Gouw and Charles Babalola in the project about a young girl who leads her little brother into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil.
Universal has moved the release dates for the upcoming “Sing” and “The Croods” sequels with the musical comedy now opening July 2nd 2021 while the caveman follow-up will now hit December 23rd 2020.
Finally, Warners’ planned film adaptation of “Minecraft” has set a March 4th 2022 release date. The feature will follow an unnamed teenage girl and her fellow adventurers, who must take on the Ender Dragon. Their foe is on a path of destruction that threatens to destroy the blocky Overworld.
