Jonathan Levine (“Warm Bodies”), Ted Melfi (“St. Vincent”), Jason Moore (“Pitch Perfect”), John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein (“Vacation”), and Jared Hess (“Napoleon Dynamite”) are all reportedly in contention to direct the upcoming Marvel-approved restart of the “Spider-Man” franchise at Sony Pictures says Deadline.
The film is reportedly a coming of age tone that is targeting a John Hughes-style blend of emotion and humour alongside all its superhero action. There’s also said to be plans to tell the story over several films with each covering a year of high school for Peter Parker who was already bitten by a radioactive spider.
According to the site, things are moving fast enough that the studio could a decision by the end of next week with Tom Rothman having the final say. The separate simultaneous search is ongoing on for a new young actor to play Peter Parker, a role that is expected to be cast imminently as well.
