“Spectre” Scribe Re-Writing “Maleficent 2”

Disney Pictures has hired Jez Butterworth to rewrite the sequel to 2014’s “Maleficent” with Butterworth replacing the first film’s screenwriter Linda Woolverton.

Butterworth, who penned recent films like Bond entry “Spectre” and the Johnny Depp-led “Black Mass,” also penned the upcoming “Cruella” for Disney which offers a live-action take on the classic animated feature “101 Dalmatians”.

The first “Maleficent,” which offered a revisionist take on “Sleeping Beauty” with Angelina Jolie’s titular villain becoming the protagonist, pulled in $758 million at the box office worldwide.
