Sony is shuttering its live TV subscription service PlayStation Vue with the internet-based pay TV service closing its doors January 30th 2020 – just under five years after it began.
In a blog post on the official PlayStation site, the company says: “Unfortunately, the highly competitive Pay TV industry, with expensive content and network deals, has been slower to change than we expected. Because of this, we have decided to remain focused on our core gaming business.”
Sony never disclosed subscriber numbers for PlayStation Vue, but the service is said to have around half a million paying subscribers. They also reportedly engaged in talks to sell PlayStation Vue, one of the potential contenders being Fubo TV, but they ultimately broke down.
