Sony Pictures has scored the screen rights to Emil Ferris’ graphic novel “My Favorite Thing Is Monsters” following a heated bidding war.
Set against the tumultuous political backdrop of late 1960s Chicago, the fictional graphic diary focuses on ten-year-old Karen Reyes who tries to solve the murder of her holocaust survivor neighbor.
Her investigation takes us back to her neighbor’s life in Nazi Germany, where the reader discovers how the personal, the political, the past, and the present converge. Monsters, both real and imagined, are present throughout the story.
Bradley Gallo and Michael Helfant will produce.
