Sony Remakes Hitchcock’s Lodger

David Ondaatje has signed on to make his directorial debut on a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s first film, “The Lodger,” for Sony Pictures Entertainment says The Hollywood Reporter.

Marie Belloc Lowndes’ original novel was based on the true story of the hysteria caused by the Jack the Ripper’s killing spree that took place over several weeks in 1888.

Ondaatje adapted the screenplay which re-imagines the story as an urban thriller set in contemporary Los Angeles, and follows the uneasy relationship between a psychologically unstable landlady and her enigmatic lodger.

A secondary plot about involves a troubled detective engaged in a cat-and-mouse game with an unknown killer.
