Sony Pictures is unsurprisingly moving forward with development of a sequel to their horror-thriller “Escape Room” which opened on the first weekend of January earlier this year.
Deborah Ann Woll, Taylor Russell, Logan Miller, Jay Ellis and Tyler Labine starred in the first film which followed six strangers who find themselves in a maze of deadly rooms, and must use their wits to find the clues or die.
Made for just $9 million, the film has managed to amass a global haul of around $119 million – a highly profitable return including $56 million from the domestic market and a further $34 million from China.
As a result, Sony has now set aside an April 17th 2020 release date for the follow-up which, once again, Adam Robitel will return to direct. Both writer Bragi F. Schut and producer Neal H. Moritz are also coming back.
Sony is also set to release the just officially titled “Zombieland 2: Double Tap” on October 11th this year.
