Sony Plans Sequels & Reboots “Jumanji”

Doug Belgrad, the head of Sony’s Columbia Pictures division, recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter and was quite forthcoming on a number of sequels and a reboot the studio has in development.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
First up he admits their recent “The Amazing Spider-Man” reboot has issues – “The section where Rhys Ifans’ character turns irrevocably into the Lizard. It took several months to figure out, and the filmmakers cut a bunch of scenes. In software parlance, it required a patch.”

He’s also uncertain if the first film’s director Marc Webb will return – “We’d really like him back, but there are obstacles. He has an obligation to Fox.”

21 Jump Street 2
All systems are go on another round with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. Belgrad says they plan to start shooting next fall and are keen to keep working with Tatum on future projects.

Men in Black 4
Will there be more adventures with Agents J & K? “We’re very pleased with the financial performance of Men in Black 3, and we believe it is an ongoing franchise. We’re going to do [another one], but we don’t have clarity yet on how it should be done.”

In surprising news he confirms a reboot of the 1995 film about the magical board game is underway. “We’re going to try and reimagine Jumanji and update it for the present” says Belgrad as the studio is keen on getting into more family features.
