Sony Plans Contemporary “Frankenstein”

Sony Pictures Entertainment is developing a contemporary update of the Mary Shelley classic “Frankenstein” reports Deadline.

Craig Fernandez (“From Prada to Nada,” “Everything Must Go”) will write the script and Matt Tolmach, a former Sony co-president, will produce. Story details are sketchy but this is one of several Frankenstein projects in development, though all the others presently are looking very uncertain.

These include a version that Guillermo del Toro will produce, the David Auburn-scripted more epic take on the tale entitled “Casebook of Victor Frankenstein”, a film version of the Dean Koontz’s novel series set in contemporary New Orleans, the comic adaptation “I, Frankenstein” from the makers of the “Underworld” series, and a “Bride of Frankenstein” remake at Universal.
