Sony Nabs Bigelow’s “Kill Bin Laden”

Sony Pictures is acquiring U.S. distribution rights to Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled drama (previously known as “Killing Bin Laden”) about Navy SEAL Team 6’s hunt for Osama Bin Laden reports Deadline.

Mark Boal (“The Hurt Locker”) is finalizing the script which had to be changed from a drama about an unsuccessful attempt to hunt the Al Qaeda leader a little under a decade ago, to a methodical hunt film that culminates in his death.

Annapurna Pictures is financing an producing the film which aims to begin shooting early this Fall for a late 2012 release.

Sony’s deal reportedly will cost them upwards of $25 million in publicity and advertising, however in return they get a 15% distribution fee and a potential Oscar contender.
