MGM and Sony Pictures Entertainment have come to an agreement to split some of the release duties on both the “21 Jump Street” movie, and David Fincher’s upcoming adaptation of bestseller “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” says the trades.
The pair recently announced an agreement to explore co-financing opportunities on future motion pictures produced by each of the respective studios for the next five years, most notably the next two James Bond films.
It was thought MGM wanted some of the ‘Dragon Tattoo’ pie as it were, but Sony were reluctant to hand over what their setting up as a potential major franchise for them. Now they’ve mildly acquiesced with Sony set to handle marketing and distribution, while MGM will handle select international television licensing for the film.
MGM will also share the exact same arrangement on the “21 Jump Street” movie starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill.
