Sony Lands Yimou’s “Simple” Remake

Sony Pictures Classics has landed North American, Latin American and Australasian rights to Zhang Yimou’s untitled remake of “Blood Simple” says Reuters.

The 1984 ‘Blood’ was the debut feature of acclaimed filmmakers the Coen Brothers’ and followed a married man’s plot to kill his adulterous wife and her lover quickly spins out of control.

The remake moves the action to China and the methods will involve more slicing with swords than firing of guns.

Bill Kong produces. Sony Classics has released many of Zhang’s films such as “Curse of the Golden Flower,” “Raise the Red Lantern” and “House of Flying Daggers”.
