Sony Pictures and Happy Madison have picked up a comedy script about a childhood incident of baseball player Rick Dempsey says Variety
Actor Johnathon Schaech, Josh Wolf and Richard Chizmar teamed to pen the script, with input from Dempsey, which comedically explores the time when his Little League coach John Jennings turned out to be a bank robber.
Jennings steered the team to a Little League World Championship in 1963. He died of cancer shortly after his release from prison.
The scribes say the tone of the project is “Catch Me if You Can” meets “Bad News Bears”. Dempsey was famously named MVP of the 1983 World Series.
