Sony Pictures is back in the fold with Constantin Film and Unique Features on the movie adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s best-selling book series “The Mortal Instruments” reports Deadline.
Based on the first book “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” and set in contemporary New York City, the story follows a seemingly ordinary teenager who discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters.
Said beings are a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons.
She soon join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.
Last month both Sony’s Screen Gems division and director Scott Stewart (“Legion,” “Priest”) bowed out of the project. That didn’t deter Constantin and Unique who set about rebuilding the project, getting Harald Zwart (“The Karate Kid”) to direct and Lily Collins (“Mirror Mirror”) attached to star with production to kick off August 15th in Toronto.
With ‘Hunger Games’ hitting so huge, young adult lit adaptations are super hot again and so Sony is now closing a deal to partner on the project.
