The team behind the 2013 documentary “The Square” is set to work on a film about last year’s Sony Pictures hack.
Director Jehane Noujaim and Producer Karim Amer are quietly are working on the documentary which explores the cyberattack and its impact – culminating with Sony’s Amy Pascal stepping down from the co-chairman post.
The untitled film is also expected to drop new bombshells as the pair put forth alternative theories about the hack’s culprit. Though North Korea was thought to be the perpetrator, many in the cybersecurity community believe that the attack likely was an inside job.
Amer and Noujaim were already were working on a doco about international cyberattacks when the Sony story began unfolding and decided to shift the focus to it as an entry point for a wider look at cyber aggression.
To date, the only group officially to take credit for the attack are the so-called Guardians of Peace whose identity remains shrouded in mystery.
