Sony Green Lights “Dragon Tattoo” Sequel?

Despite David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” adaptation initially under performing at the box-office both domestically and internationally, Sony Pictures is moving forward with plans to adapt the next book in Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy.

Deadline reports that Sony aims to start shooting the second film “The Girl Who Played With Fire” by late 2012/early 2013 but they have not yet locked in David Fincher as director. Not have they confirmed rumors that the second and third film will be shot back-to-back.

While the R-rated ‘Dragon’ opened soft in the U.S., it has held stronger than pretty much all the other Christmas holiday films and will likely finish up around the $100 million mark domestically. In global markets the film also disappointed in Europe and Asia with soft openings, but should still do enough for a combined worldwide total of over $200 million.
