Sony Pictures has picked up rights to classic crime-fighting hero “The Green Hornet” and plans to adapt the story for the big screen.
“Hornet” follows the adventures of Britt Reid, a bored playboy who inherits his father’s crusading newspaper, the Daily Sentinel.
By night he is a masked hero, fighting crime with his sidekick Kato, who has incredible martial-arts skills.
The duo were created during the golden age of radio. Despite comic and film spin-offs, they remain best remembered for the short-lived 60’s series with Van Williams & Bruce Lee.
Various attempts in recent years to bring the project to life on the big screen have never panned out, most notably with Kevin Smith helming. At times George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Jake Gyllenhaal and Jet Li have been attached at one time or another.
Neal H. Moritz will produce, and the project has already gone out to writers.
