One studio chief is exiting, and another seems to have promoted his successor.
Sony Pictures has confirmed that longtime studio chief Amy Pascal is exiting her post as co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and chairman of its motion picture group.
Pascal will remain at the studio thanks to a new producing deal which will see her take the reins of a new venture to be based on the Sony lot and funded by the studio. She is expected to step down from her current job in May, but no successor has yet been lined up.
The same probably can’t be said for what’s going on at Disney where Thomas O. Staggs, the head of the company’s theme parks, has been announced as the studio’s new COO. The new role positions him as the frontrunner to replace current CEO Robert Iger whose contract is up with the studio in 2018.
