Sony Buys Ps4 Spider Man Developer Insomniac

Sony Interactive Entertainment has acquired longtime PlayStation games developer Insomniac Games in its entirety. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Insomniac is the team behind last year’s celebrated PS4 exclusive “Marvel’s Spider-Man” and the “Ratchet & Clank,” “Spyro the Dragon” and “Resistance” franchises along with standalones like “Sunset Overdrive”. “Marvel’s Spider-Man” has sold more than 13.2 million copies worldwide as of last month.

The deal makes Insomniac the 14th studio to join Sony Interactive Entertainment’s roster alongside the likes of Naughty Dog (“Uncharted,” “The Last of Us”), Santa Monica Studio (“God of War,” “Journey”), Sucker Punch Productions (“Ghost of Tsushima,” “Infamous”), Guerrilla Games (“Horizon Zero Dawn,” “Killzone”), Media Molecule (“Tearaway,” “Dreams”) and Bend Studio (“Days Gone,” “Syphon Filter”).

The day-to-day operations are expected to be run by the current management team in conjunction with SIE WWS San Mateo Studio. No mention is made of it in the press release, but a “Spider-Man” sequel is expected to be in development for a PS5 launch.
