Domain name registration seems to be an increasing place for potential scoops these past few weeks, especially in regards to Sony Pictures.
Fusibile reports that on Friday the studio bought up as many as three dozen domain name variations of British crime writer John Burdett’s Sonchai Jitpleecheep novel series along with the words ‘film’ and ‘movie’ in them.
The three published works and fourth upcoming novel center on Thai Buddhist detective, Sonchai Jitpleecheep. The result of a U.S. military officer and a prostitute’s liaison, Sonchai spent much of his childhood in the West and has acquired cultural insights.
Now in Bangkok, he is a seemingly unbribeable ‘outsider’ alienated from his colleagues. He investigates bizarre crimes involving Thailand’s sex industry while the books explore conflicting Thai and Western norms along with supernatural and religious themes.
The first book, “Bangkok 8”, was previously optioned by Millennium Films four years ago with “V for Vendetta” helmer James McTeigue attached, but that version fell through. Could it have found a new home at Sony?
