“G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra” director Stephen Sommers will not be returning to helm the sequel. No reason has been given for his departure reports The Los Angeles Times.
At least two reps for various filmmakers have been approached about their clients taking over directing duties on the follow-up. There were reported rumors that Sommers and the studio were having a difficult time getting along on the first film, but it wasn’t enough to stop Sommers being officially announced as director for the sequel a few months ago.
Sommers currently at work preparing for a new take on Tarzan. “Zombieland” scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been attached to pen the script for the “G.I. Joe” sequel for over a year.
