Disney and Lucasfilm’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story” earned $14.1 million in Thursday evening previews, that’s a record for a Memorial Day weekend release.
However, that’s way behind the $29 million preview gross for the previous ‘A Star Wars Story’ anthology film “Rogue One” in December 2016. That film went on to a $155 million domestic debut over a Friday-Sunday period.
More recently “Deadpool 2” scored $18.6 million in previews and ended up with a $125 million haul by the end of Sunday. Tracking for “Solo” suggests a debut in the $130-150 million range over the Friday-Monday holiday weekend.
Solo is also launching in most points around the globe this weekend with a projected worldwide start of $300+ million.
