As the first-round of voting has kicked-off for the Best Original Song and Best Original Score awards at the Oscars, four talked about scores have already been disqualified – one of which is for rather embarrassing reasons.
“Mandy,” “Green Book,” “Solo: A Star Wars Story” and “The Other Side of the Wind” will not have any of their musical elements in contention for the awards in February. ‘Green’ and ‘Wind’ were knocked out for lack of original music as their score is mostly sourced from existing material.
The late Johann Johannsson’s score for “Mandy” has been disqualified because the film released on VOD before it completed its qualifying run.
Finally John Powell’s score for “Solo” has been disqualified because… someone forgot to submit it in time. The deadline for consideration was November 15th, and “Solo” came in too late. The shortlists will be announced on Monday with the final nominees revealed January 23rd.
