Snyder On “Batman v Superman” Spoilers

Think that the most recent trailer for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” gave too much of the film away? Think again says director Zack Snyder who says the film still has a ton of surprises that haven’t been spoiled yet.

The filmmaker tells MTV that the trailer only shows a tiny fraction of what’s to come and went on to address spoiler articles and rumors that have cropped up over the past year or so:

“I have the benefit of seeing the movie. It’s cool that they think it’s too much and I appreciate people not wanting to know, but there’s plenty that they don’t know. There’s a lot of movie that’s not in the trailer.

Of course I hate it when any spoilers come out! You design the movie as a story that evolves as you watch it, so moment-to-moment [you’re thinking], ‘Oh my god, what’s going to happen next? Are they gonna live? Are they gonna die?’ So you want that experience for the audience, as much as you can.

If you’re, as an audience member, exploring these articles, looking for answers to questions that you have, maybe you’re okay with knowing before you go. It’s like an individual taste. But like I said, I want people to see the movie without knowing.

Snyder has also spoken with Empire Magazine about how tackling Batman in the film was a whole different challenge to doing just Superman on his own like he did in “Man of Steel”:

“It has been really fun using Batman as the answer to Superman, because he’s not flying around and acting crazy. He’s just driving around in his Batmobile, doing his Batstuff. We were able to do a lot of this practically. Batman brings that back. Figuring out how to mix Batman’s practical approach with Superman has been an awesome experience.”

Snyder then spoke with FilmInk about Gal Gadot’s casting as Wonder Woman and the extent of the character’s role in the film which he confirms is “bigger than a cameo” as “she comes in and does something.”:

“It’s an amazing opportunity to have Wonder Woman in the film. We haven’t had a female superhero of that magnitude, and it’s an amazing opportunity for the world to get behind an amazing, powerful female character. I’m happy that we have the opportunity to do that.

Half of my movies have female leads…maybe that’s because I have so many strong women in my life. I’m not in the least surprised by a strong female superhero. I’m shocked that it hasn’t happened sooner. By the way, I highly recommend Jill Lepore’s book, The Secret History Of Wonder Woman, if you haven’t read it; it’s amazing, and truly epic.

We tested a bunch of actresses, as you can imagine. But the thing with Gal is that she’s strong, she’s beautiful, and she’s a kind person, which is interesting, but fierce at the same time. It’s that combination of being fierce but kind at the same time that we were looking for. She can get serious, but she’s amazingly fun to be around.

And by the way, she really held her own with Ben in the screen test. Ben was like, ‘Whoa, that girl is something else!’ That was a good sign, because Ben is very tough in the scene, and he’s big and commanding. Anytime that you’re doing a test like that and you’re looking at the other person, you’re thinking, ‘Okay, that’s good stuff.’ That was part of the process, and over time as we got to know Gal, we found out how amazing she is.”

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” hits theaters March 25th 2016.
