Scribe team Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont (“Maid of Honor,” “Can’t Hardly Wait”) have been tapped to rewrite Steve Bloom’s spec script “Sisters of Mercy” for Columbia Pictures and Overbrook Entertainment.
Developed as a possible starring vehicle for Will Smith, it centers on a widower father who is rescued after his wife’s death by members of her book club who soon begin running his life with advice on parenting and dating.
Also eight-year-old Jaden Christopher Syre Smith, son of Will, is attached to Sony & Overbrook’s “Newton’s Law.”
Smith plays a precocious inventor trapped in a science center during a field trip. Former VFX artist Carolyn Brooks wrote the screenplay.
