Maggie Smith, Jim Broadbent, Kristen Wiig, Sally Hawkins, Toby Jones and Michiel Huisman have all joined the Santa Claus origins movie “A Boy Called Christmas” at Studiocanal and Blueprint Pictures.
The film follows an ordinary boy called Nikolas who sets out on an extraordinary adventure into the snowy north in search of his woodcutter father, who is on a quest to discover the fabled village of the elves, Elfhelm.
He takes a headstrong reindeer called Blitzen and a loyal pet mouse for company. Zoe Colletti, Henry Lawfull, Rune Temte and Indica Watson co-star.
Gil Kenan is directing the picture, co-writing the script with Ol Parker based on the book by Matt Haig, and filming has just begun in Lapland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the U.K.
Studiocanal will release the Christmas film theatrically in Australia, China, France, Germany, New Zealand, and the U.K. while Netflix has it for the rest of the world including the United States.
