“Slumdog” Scribe Adapts “In the Skin of a Lion”

“Slumdog Millionaire” scribe Simon Beaufoy has signed on to adapt Michael Ondaatje’s immigrant-themed 1987 novel “In the Skin of a Lion” as a movie for Serendipity Point Films, UK’s Film4 and Potboiler Films.

The story follows the lives of immigrants who played a large role in the building of the city of Toronto in the early 1900s and focuses on romance and class conflict amidst the clash between immigrant workers and the ruling elite.

Robert Lantos and Andrea Calderwood will produce. Ondaatje also penned “The English Patient” which shares the characters of Hana and David Caravaggio which were introduced in ‘Lion’.
