Famed early 1980s slasher franchise “Sleepaway Camp” is getting rebooted. Producer Jeff Katz has optioned remake rights to the property and hopes to update the mythos for a modern setting.
In the original, a slightly disturbed and painfully shy young woman named Angela (Felissa Rose) is sent away to summer camp with her cousin.
Not long after her arrival, things start to go horribly wrong for anyone with sinister or less than honorable intentions.
The reboot aims to keep the psychosexual elements that made the first film such a cult favorite. How it will handle the original’s famous ending should be interesting to see.
Robert Hiltzik’s 1983 film film was shot on a budget of $350,000, yet pulled in an impressive $11 million. Katz, Hiltzik, Rose and Michele Tatosian are all set to produce the remake.
