Just three weeks out from release, and short term tracking for “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” has come online with this last of the current trilogy expected to gross between $175-205 million in its domestic opening weekend.
That’s a tad lower than the $220 million of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” but in line with the diminishing returns that film had to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which debuted to $247.9 million. It’s also facing competition from “Jumanji: The Next Level” which is tracking to open about $45 million for its opening weekend.
The numbers arrive as one mystery surrounding the new film has been resolved – turns out it was actor John Boyega whose script ended up on eBay recently. Boyega explains he was moving apartments and left it under his bed. A few weeks later a cleaner comes in, finds it and then puts it on eBay for $82 and so the person didn’t know the true value”. Check out his confession below:
“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” is scheduled for release on December 20th.
