Freeform has finalized the cast for its upcoming Marvel comics-inspired drama series “Cloak and Dagger”.
The story centers on the interracial romance between Cloak and Dagger, aka Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph), two teenagers from different backgrounds who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love.
Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart.
They are joined by Andrea Roth as Tandy’s always optimistic mother, Gloria Reuben and Miles Mussenden as Tyrone’s overly encouraging parents, Carl Lundstedt as a townie and Tandy’s partner in crime, James Saito as Tyrone’s mentor Dr. Bernard Sanjo, and J.D. Evermore as the intimidating Detective Connors.
The series is reportedly being eyed for a winter 2018 debut as showrunner Joe Pokaski is rewriting his initial script for the Disney-owned cable network. Gina Prince-Bythewood (“Love & Basketball”) will helm the pilot.
The series is one of several new Marvel shows on the way this year including the just premiered “Legion,” “Iron Fist” and “The Defenders” for Netflix, “The Inhumans” for ABC, “The Runaways” for Hulu, and an untitled “X-Men” project for FOX.
