“Sirius,” “Ernest,” “Rock,” “Ready” Set Helmers

“Taken” helmer Pierre Morel has been set to direct the survival thriller “Sirius” from a spec script by Tony Mosher. Morel is expected to film this after the Jennifer Garner-led spy thriller “Peppermint” which began shooting this week in Los Angeles.

“Sirius” follows two members of a Danish special forces dog sled team – one a sage veteran and the other a bold new recruit – who become ensnared in an international incident while on a mission to one of the coldest and deadliest places on Earth. If their lethal adversaries don’t get them, nature just might.

Next up, Christopher Landon (“Happy Death Day”) has been set to both adapt the script and direct a film adaptation of the Vice short story “Ernest” by Geoff Manaugh. Dan Halsted and Nate Miller are attached as producers.

The story follows a homeowner who begins filming his housebound ghost, a mostly harmless apparition that looks a bit like Ernest Borgnine, and sends out the results to the world through social media during which he becomes a global viral sensation.

Also today, Bryce Dallas Howard is locked to direct and now Matthew Quick has been set to adapt the screenplay for the film version of his own 2010 young adult novel “Sorta Like A Rock Star” for Netflix. Ol Parker penned a recent draft.

The story follows Amber Appleton, a high school senior who secretly lives in the back of a school bus, a situation that arose when her mother’s boyfriend kicked them out. Despite the adversity, Amber is a self-proclaimed princess of hope and girl of unyielding optimism.

Finally, Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin have been set to direct the Fox Searchlight Fox Searchlight “Ready or Not” from a script by Guy Busick and Ryan Murphy. Tripp Vinson, James Vanderbilt, Bradley Fischer and William Sherak are producing.

That film tells of a bride who, marrying into a wealthy gaming family, sees her wedding night turn deadly when the eccentric new in-laws force her into a bizarre and terrifying game of hide and seek.
