Sinise, Edgerton & More Up For “Suicide Squad”

Following Jake Gyllenhaal’s passing on the offer of Rick Flagg, many have been wondering who might step into the role of that leader of the super villains in David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad” movie at Warner Bros. Pictures.

Tom Hardy was slated to play the role until he exited the other week. Reports at the time indicated that Rick Flagg’s diminished role in the latest draft of the script led to his departure. As a result, whomever is cast is only getting a supporting role, albeit a key one which has a big impact on the film.

Today, Cinema Blend reports that Jon Bernthal (“The Walking Dead”) and Joel Edgerton (“The Great Gatsby”) are potentially involved in the project. Bernthal previously worked with Ayer on “Fury” and was originally suggested for the role last year before Hardy was cast.

Rick Flagg isn’t the only role in the film being discussed today. A rumor is circling that “True Blood” star Joe Manganiello is nearing a deal to play the villain Deathstroke. There’s also a report from El Mayimbe which suggests that Gary Sinise has joined the cast, though as to his role it’s unsure with General Eiling being a possibility.
