Simpkins Returns, Russos May Exit Marvel Studios?

Following their successful stint helming “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War” and the currently untitled and in production fourth “Avengers” film, filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo could well be leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a new interview with Collider, actor Josh Brolin hinted that the pair are going to try something different once the next ‘Avengers’ wraps:

“I think that they’re in a position very openly and raw-ly where they’re like, ‘We would never do this again. This is a one-time deal. To put this many successful actors together is such a pain in the ass, but it’s been worth it. We’re doing two movies. One back to back, and this is it for us. Then we’ll go off in another direction,’ but this is a very, very, very ambitious project that I think is going to pay off in a big way.”

That’s certainly not a confirmation that the Russos will leave Marvel, but it’s very likely the pair will want a break after the back-to-back shoot of two of the biggest films of all time. Brolin goes on to say he has nothing but pure admiration for the helmers as they’ve been working with him on his villain character Thanos and the results are going to be great:

“I think what they’re coming up with based on what I’ve done, I think is next level. I think they were very happy where they said, ‘We didn’t really realize that Thanos is going to be as complex as he is,’ and I think they were very appreciative with the stuff that we’re bringing to it. I got Joe Russo who’s constantly resourcing like The Godfather and, ‘You have a gun to his f%$@ing head.’ I’m like, ‘I love you so much. The fact that you’re taking an Avengers scenario and you’re turning it into a Godfather thing for us to be able to kind of hang our hat on is great, and to emotionalize the whole thing.”

Certainly the Russos will remain very much involved with the MCU through until the release of the fourth “Avengers” film in 2019. Speaking of that film, it has also been reported this weekend by IMDb that “Iron Man 3” actor Ty Simpkins has joined the cast. Simpkins, now sixteen years old, will reprise his role of Harley Keener – the kid whom Tony Stark befriended – in “Iron Man 3”.
