Simon West has signed on to direct the remake of “Heat” for SJ Pictures and Quad Films.
No, not Michael Mann’s 1995 crime thriller. This “Heat” is based on the Burt Reynolds-led 1986 action film of the same name about an ex-mercenary turned Vegas bouncer. William Goldman, who wrote the original film, is also penning the remake.
Jason Statham takes over the role of a tough recovering gambling addict who makes a living providing protection. When a dear friend is brutally beaten by a high-rolling mobster, he helps her get her revenge and he ends up in more trouble than he ever imagined.
Brian De Palma was previously linked to the project but has left. West and Statham previously worked together on another remake, last year’s “The Mechanic”. Shooting kicks off in February.
