Simon Cowell Producing A “Betty Boop” Movie

In one of the strangest pairings you are ever likely to hear, “American Idol” producer/judge Simon Cowell is spearheading a feature film reboot of classic 1930s cartoon character Betty Boop.

Cowell’s Syco Entertainment, “The Lego Movie” animators Animal Logic Entertainment and Boop rights owners Fleischer Studios are teaming to develop and produce the first feature-length film about the jazz age flapper charicature.

The music-driven hybrid animated comedy has no writer or director currently attached, but Cowell, Adam Milano, Zareh Nalbandian and Jason Lust will produce.

Boop was one of the best-known and popular cartoon characters in the world, appearing in over one-hundred cartoons. She was one of the first and most famous sex symbols on the animated screen, and last appeared in a brief cameo in 1988’s “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”.
