“American Idol” judge Simon Cowell is planning the music-themed project “Star Struck” says The Hollywood Reporter.
Inspired by the 1980 film “Fame,” the story is set behind the scenes of a TV singing competition and follows 10 contestants trying to win.
Cowell says he wants it to be “the musical version of ‘Rocky’ — an underdog story, a feel-good film.”
The leads in the film will be cast through nationwide open call auditions similar to those used on the reality shows.
British TV scribe Jonathan Harvey will pen the script and a Summer 2008 release is planned.
