Following three successive weeks at the top of the North American box office, filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan has confirmed that he’s working on the follow-up to his James McAvoy-led multiple personality thriller “Split.”
Shyamalan tweeted on Saturday: “I have an 11 page outline for my next film in my bag. I can’t tell you what it is, but If you’ve seen #Split.”
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “SPLIT”.
“Split” has grossed $98.7 million stateside after three weekends and no details are currently available about possible sequel’s storyline.
However the sequel is expected to continue with the surprise ending reveal of the film which indicated that “Split” is set in the same cinematic universe as Shyamalan’s 2000 feature “Unbreakable”.
In an interview a few weeks ago with MTV, Shyamalan said whatever story he does here it has to stand on its own:
“This third movie needs to have its own idea. The high concept of that final movie can’t be, ‘It’s the final Unbreakable.’ There has to be something about it that makes it its own movie. These two [Split and Unbreakable] are their own movies. That’s when I’ll be happiest. When [the last one] is its own movie. In a way, I can say that it just can be watched by itself.”
“Split” was produced by Blumhouse Productions on a reported $9 million budget.
