Showtime’s “Guerrilla,” “Dying” Set Premeires

Showtime has followed up its TCA presentation this week with the release of the first promo trailers for its event series “Guerrilla” and potentially ongoing drama series “I’m Dying Up Here,” both of which are set in the 1970s.

“Guerrilla” is executive produced by John Ridley and Idris Elba (the latter taking a supporting role on screen too). The six-part event series follows a London couple who liberates a political prisoner and forms a radical underground cell targeting the Black Power Desk, a counter-intelligence unit within Special Branch that is dedicated to crushing black activism. The series premieres April 13th in the UK and April 16th in the United States.

“I’m Dying Up Here” is a one-hour drama series that chronicles the L.A. stand-up comedy scene of the 1970s, a time that launched the careers of the likes of David Letterman, Jay Leno, and Richard Pryor. Executive produced by Jim Carrey, the series stars Melissa Leo, Jake Lacy, Ari Graynor, Michael Angarano, Clark Duke and RJ Cyler. It will premiere on June 4th.
