Showtime Scraps Plans For Guantanamo

Showtime has decided not to move forward with its ten-episode drama series “Guantanamo” which had filmmaker Oliver Stone slated to direct the two-hour opening episode – his first involvement in scripted TV.

The project was engulfed in the Weinstein scandal when the mogul was accused by numerous women of sexual harassment and sexual assault. The series remained in development with no greenlight decision made, but the show wouldn’t proceed if The Weinstein Company (TWC) remained involved.

TWC’s participation has not been settled yet but Showtime has made it clear – they’re not proceeding with it. Created by Daniel Voll, the show would have focused on the detainees held in the world’s most controversial prison and those who defend and condemn them.
