Shonda Rhimes Jumps Ship To Netflix

After fifteen years at ABC where she created the likes of “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal” and “How To Get Away with Murder,” producer and showrunner Shonda Rhimes is jumping ship to Netflix.

Netflix has signed Rhimes up to a multi-year production deal. Her Shondaland production label will begin producing new series for Netflix. Executive producer Betsy Beers will also come to Netflix with Rhimes.

Rhimes had one more year under her most recent four-year deal at ABC Studios, but negotiated an early exit so she can go to Netflix. The Netflix deal has a similar length but is said to be far richer.

Rhimes will continue work on those three aforementioned shows, her mid-season series “For the People” and a “Grey’s Anatomy” spin-off at ABC.
