“Shin Godzilla” co-directors Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi will re-team to helm “Shin Ultraman,” a live-action film adaptation of the famed 1966 tokusatsu TV series and its many sequels and spin-offs.
The show follows a giant alien that battles space monsters to save the Earth, however when it’s not fighting it takes a human form.
Masami Nagasawa, Hidetoshi Nishijima and Takumi Saito have signed to star while Anno will serve as scriptwriter. Studio Khara, the animation house Anno launched in 2006, will produce along with Toho and Tsuburaya Production.
Anno is currently busy at work on “Evangelion 4.0 Final,” the final installment of his “Rebuild of Evangelion” tetralogy. Once done, he’ll devote himself full-time to “Shin Ultraman” which will release in 2021.
