Filmmaker Shim Hyung-rae has announced “D-War II,” a sequel to the $32 million-budget 2007 South Korean fantasy action film which basically involved a giant dragons vs. helicopter battle over the skies of Los Angeles.
The upcoming sequel is set to score big budget boost as well. Chinese-South Korean co-production, Chinese Culture Group Co. has invested approximately $77 million in the project with Shim promising “Hollywood-class” visual effects.
The new film is subtitled “Mysteries of the Dragon” and is set in 1969 during the race to be the first country on the Moon. In this take, the U.S. and Russia actually go to war.
The film aims to begin shooting in June ahead of a release next Summer.
